The SHOCKING truth!

Please. I need to purchase shocks and would like input from all you good folks. My 71 Jimmy is going to get a six inch TUFF country easy ride lift, springs in front, and for the time being blocks in back. It will be on the road 80-90% of the time, very little offroad. I'm also installing 35x12.5x16 tires, probably Baja Claw Radials. Thinking of either Rancho RS5000 or ProComp 3000 shocks. Looking for a decent ride. What shocks are you folks using? Give me some pros and cons. Any other shocks I should consider?

Thanks

Yep I got shocks on my ride doestch rides pretty good but those claws are gonna kill any ride quality your after.. I have bias clas on my toyota and they ride horible..

Thanks FrenchBlue72, I've heard doestch are pretty good, aren't they a bit expensive compare to the RS5000 or ProComp3000? Probably much better shocks though. Did you have any problems balancing your bias claws?

FRENCHBLUE72 03-23-2005 11:27 PM

If I remember correct they are comparably priced. I did not have problems ballanceing my claws they just seem to ride bad..

I've got doestch shocks on my '69 and it is a rough and bouncy ride. Tires and springs are huge factors in the ride. You're probaby going to get a little less bounce out of the 16 wheels (less side wall). Also, the stiffness of the side wall can change the ride a lot too.

There is a guy with a Jimmy for sale near my house (it's a $2000 truck he wants $10,500 for - it's been for sale for about a year and a half) and he has 38's with 6" of lift. He said, and based on the lack of clearance I believe him, that there is barely any suspension travel, most of the bump absorbtion is in the side walls of the tires.
