cruise control removal ?s

i drive an 82 GMC 1500, it had cruise, but all that is left is the piece on the inner fender what the speedo cable goes to. i want to remove it, but when i do what do i do for a speedo? what do i need to order a cable for?

Just go to a local wrecking yard and get a single peice cable from an older truck, burban, or blazer :)

What years are interchangeable for the cable? I need to do the same thing on my '77.
