Top Removal:HELP!!!!
OK I am trying to remove the top on my 71. Removed all bolts from sides. Two in front above visors. Sides can be moved with hand pressure. Tried to remove front first by running strap through windows and lifting. Almost pulled blazer off ground. :whine: Do you need to lift from back first and then tilt front or what? Never been around top removal so I don't know. MUST get off it is supposed to be in 70's next week and I have a scratch I have to itch before I get started with serious refurbishing. HELP please!!

Did you get the bolts that go into the top that are IN the visor brackets?
|
I think Gee_Emm has it figured out. There are actually 4 bolts on the windshield. I think you also have to remove the little brackets by the tailgate and the drip rail deflectors above the doors - but it's been so long since I took a top off or put one on, I don't remember exactly.
While you have it off, get a soft top for the rest of the summer - it is soooo much easier if you are going to be driving it all summer. |

HOPEFULLY YOU DIDN'T BEND THOSE BOLTS OR THEY WILL BE A B!TCH TO GET OUT  |
Let me know where you found bolts that were hidden as I will be removing the top from my K5 once I get it running and I have never taken one off before.

Yukon Jack, the bolts are right in the big chunky visor mount going straight up into the top. |
So did you get the top off???? The sun has gotta be out..

Should just be 4 bolts total along the windshield......don't have to mess with the phillips screws unless you're going to remove the sunvisors!

yah, keep us posted TheKidd... i have never taken the top off my k5. i was looking forward to doing that this summer. any info would be greatly appreciated.

I coat all the bolts with never seize when I put the top back on. I had a hard time getting the bolts out the first time I pulled the top. I also had to drill out some broken bolts that someone else obviously had trouble with. My hard top has not been on for 3 years now, but I use the bed rail bolts for my rag top snap rail.
