Ashtray to Cup Holder

This is still in the thinking stage but there may be someone out there who had thought of me before me. And built it.

Anyone converted their dash ash tray to a cup holder?

Botietruck 04-06-2005 09:17 PM

I've seen that somewhere..I thought it was Athey's Classic Truck Parts, but not sure.

72MARIO 04-06-2005 09:19 PM

I thought of the same Idea a year ago. Brothers sells the conversion I think it was close to $80u.s. Really nice looking kit though.

Thank ya for the lead. They are on sale by the look of the sight - 69.95

72MARIO 04-06-2005 09:26 PM

Sales are Awesome. I bet if you were to try and make one you would have 10 hours into it. So $69.95 sounds great. I guess it's time to order on for my 67.

Anybody have one of the Brothers units? I wonder how close it is to the stereo head unit? Or if you have to take your drinks out to load a CD or cassette?

Touch_Of_Madness 04-06-2005 09:45 PM

The pic from nyncompute is the brothers product as shown at their sight.

Looks like it will be nessessary to remove the drinks depending on the location of the cd and the height of the drink. I just looked at my truck again and a can of soda sitting in front of the stereo I will have to remove it to place a cd in the radio. But since I rarely listen to cd's - it dont matter to me it may to someone else.

Athey's does one too if I remember correctly. Bill is also a contributor to the board. If I were going that route I would at least check out what he has. Support those who support us. I don't think Brother's supports our board any from what i've seen.... ........Jerry

This company was selling them on here back in the fall for $55 plus shipping. I would check with them first.

I installed one from Athey's in my truck. I was working on the heater and a/c ducts so I thought I would put one in. Good instructions and minor modifications on your existing ashtray. A can of pop or small coffee is all I put there. It is nice unit, but it insn't very deep because of the size. Don't put a Big Gulp up there. I can post a pic if you like?

Bowtiefreak 04-07-2005 07:47 AM

I have one too that I got fron Bill. Works good. I got it a couple months ago and I think I paid around $55-$60 shipped.

I got mine from PICKMUP,Thanks Frank

Lemield 04-07-2005 10:54 AM

I've got one in my C20 and one for my CST. I like it. It holds small cups and bottles pretty well. Better than nothing but I do miss my ashtray for use as a trashcan. :)

It's made by Old Air Products. I bought it direct from them for $55, if I recall correctly. You can probably get it from Rick's Pickup Truck Parts or any other Old Air dealer. Real easy to put in and I think it's going to work great.

When I asked the dealer I buy parts from about them, he said they were crap and he would not bring them in, maybe they didn't survive.

Re: Ashtray to Cup Holder

I just made a rudimentary cupholder that requires zero mods. Holds large drinks too. Used scrap wood from my shop. You can obviously make it as nice as you like. Total build time was about 5 hours including drying time for the glue, paint and sanding. I used a soft wood, (cedar). Hardwood will work much better. I have pix under my posts.
