Does anyone have Pics of a monster notch????
 

I have a 65 Chev fleetside and I am wanting to do a monster notch in the rear and want to use the stock trailing arms has anyone done this and do you have pictures.I have a fair idea of what it should look like but just want to see if I have it right before I start So far I have z'd the front 2inches and am running a 454 bigblock. hoping to get it to lay rocker this year, any help would be appreciated.Thanks, Chris

Its gonna take alot of cuttin if you wanna lay rocker with stock trailing arms. I currently have this setup with 20s and its not close to layin rocker because the trailing arms hit the frame right where the notch starts, with a long notch you may be able to make it work but it would look kinda funny. Ill try to get some pics of mine on here.

I've got a 72 Burb that I did a 10" step notch, and made custom three inch lowering blocks, and when the trailing arms hit the frame the rockers are about an inch off the ground, eventually, I will just section that section of the frame up a little to allow it to lay rocker. One of these days, I will post some pics. I actually just finished the upper crossmember/ bag mount last night, and now just have to hook up all the valves, tanks, comps, etc. Getting close :metal:

I dont have any blocks because I just done it as cheap as possible because I have a ford 9" that I am going to put in with a 4 link. You can go to my profile to see how low it sits.

The rear is still not done yet. I should have the bags mounted in a couple of days. I still need to mount the watts link also. Its a 8" notch w/ 3" blocks. I did not have to notch too much for the trailing arms to clear. I dont have the front done yet so no pics of it layed out yet.

Another trick... get another set of saddles and mount them in about and inch or so and run 3 inch blocks! will clear! I lay frame on a 29.5" tall tire with stock trailing arms. I did a big notch though... to help out!

Can you explain that one.

the mounts on the axle housing in which the trailing arms mount too..... if you move then inward 1" you can get away w/o notching the frame for the trailing arms. It was just easier for me to notch the frame instead of welding on some new mounts.

does anything have to be done to the trailing arms or, is there enough movement in the arms to bring them over that inch>??

well when I was installing the blocks on the trailing arms I played around w/ the arm to see if it would bind at all if it was moved over....... well it did not feel as smooth moving the arm in it full range of travel plus that was w/ 38 year old bushings, so it may bind a little more w/ new bushings. dont know? I am sure its fine if done, they only thing that might happen is wearing out the bushings sooner

No binding on mine! I made new mounts for front of my trailing arms too. There is enough play in the bushing for it to work!

I dont own of of these trucks (yet). Im going on pictures only. But has anybody ever raised the crossmember (arm mounts and all) to keep the arms from pointing up toward the axle at a lowered height? As long as they clear the frame (which has been said here is possible with some notching) I dont see how this would be a problem.

its not needed, when my truck is lowered the arms are almost level w/ the ground if not more still pointing down

I did mount my pivot point higher! It will keep the wheel centered in the wheelwell too! If your truck is very low....ie laying frame on stock trailing arms... It will sit more towards the front of the wheel well!

true..... I did not think about that. I will check my setup after I install my ece crossmember
