Hooker Dual exhaust fit?
So yesterday I replaced my old Hooker Comp headers with new ceramic coated Hooker Comps. I modified the clutch Z-bar and they fit great, no problems. (I'll post pics later). I also planned on installing a new Hooker header back system. I ordered it through Summit along with 2 Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers. I can't even get the head pipes to fit! :no: The tranny crossmember is in the way. Has anybody used this kit? It's Hooker part # 16527 Summmit # HOK-16527HKR.
I'm going to give Hooker and Summit a call. I'm NOT a happy camper! :cuss: :censored: |
Hmmmm, is the crossmember in the way because of the header position?,
or is it just way off, are all of your mounts fresh (engine, tranny, t. case) |
They seem to be way off. From the diagram that came with it, it looks like they should run right up against the frame rails. Even if I could snake them in bewteen the frame and the cross member, the left side would be against the wiring and the right side against the fuel lines. This can't be right :crazy:
I can look above the crossmember on the left side and there is like a straight line right to the collector. I can't figure why they made these crazy bends. Here is a picture of them.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rheadtubes.jpg |

Yeah, they look about the same length as yours and the pictures looking forward through the x-member looks just like mine. What sucks is that Hooker flat out states that this exhaust kit is "designed to be used with Hooker Competitition part no. 2453 headers". I guess they'll be getting a call tomorrow.

So, I just talked to the tech guy at Hooker and he says that they go UNDER the frame rail. I didn't try that approach. It seemed too stupid! :rolleyes: I'll check it out tonight but it looks like I may be taking this thing into a shop and getting them to fab up the the head pipes. At least I should be able to use the tailpipes. Now all I've got to do is figure out how to get the mufflers installed temporarily so I can drive it without waking the dead! The kit was only $135...I guess you really do get what you pay for.

So as soon as I got home tonight I bolted up the left side head pipe as suggested. No problem, the location sucks, but at least I can use it until I get it to the shop for a properly placed pipe. Then I go to do the right side...no way :confused: The problem seems to be that the master engineers at Hooker neglected to notice that the right side header collector is about 2" higher than the left side and designed both pipes with the same bends. (I checked they really are marked L and R). So, I guess they'll be getting another call. |
