How do you mount this

I just got this cleaner and I can figure out how to mount the damn thing. No instructions with it. Do I have to make something? Anybody put one on before?http://www.jegs.com/photos/500/510/510-120-148.jpg

Those look nice.....but do yourself a favor, take it back, or sell it to someone else! They are a fire , just waiting for a place to happen (on top of your engine) ouch! do the swap, & spend the bucks on a good K&N or equivalent....... L

dooooooode, those are BAD news.
Every time you hit the throttle, a little fuel sprqays up. The foam on those holds the fuel. Then, the lightest of back fires can...adn WILL ignite it and it will burn. It'll drop melted foam into your carb, it'll burn you paint, and if you are real fast, that's all it'll do.

They don't even flow all that well...nor do they filter worth a damn.

I still have mine...kept it after the fire (no one told me untill AFTER the insident) I use it as wall art now. I would rather go with NO filter than that filter.

No Kidding? So, I assume that K&N is the best then.

Thanks Guys. Had no Idea. I'm really glad I decided to post this. I had that fear looking like an idiot cause I didnt know how to mount the thing. Now who would have looked like an idiot on the side of the road with a fireball out of the engine? ME. Once again thanks guys!!!!

some guys still swear by the old paper filter, but with an open element setup.....& I run no inner fenders on the tilt clip on my old truck, the clean & reuse filters make the most sense to me. For your app, it may not be the most economical way. A 14x4 K&N cost me $50 & fits any aftermarket "lid".Mine says Moroso on the top(red anodized to match the Valve covers) . the choices are wide open tho......do you like chrome, or billet? that is the sweet part about these old trucks......its yours, & reflects your personality ;) That is what really makes the "sport" interesting.....no 2 are the same..... :) L

K&N flows great, but they do let alot of dirt through.

See I thought It was the opposite of that. I thought that they were the cleanest out there? I'm most certainly wrong, but I've been running the cheapy Fram filters for a few years and I havent had any problems. What filters do you use Andy?

69 longhorn 05-10-2005 12:33 AM

My understanding on the K&N is that it is good for around 50000miles.from what I have read, the filter works better with dirt stuck to it,& the dirt is SAID to not hurt the flow. Who knows for sure? There is also a prefilter available for the dirt track guys. Dollar for dollar, what works for me may not work for you.....you just have to look at all the pros & cons ;) 69L

check out Comp Cams for the polymer air cleaners. they come in colors & work awesome. then get an AC Delco filter for a 92 Chevy with a diesel. 14" x4 & has a prefilter. cost around $8

Longhorn Man 05-10-2005 10:37 PM

I run Napa gold on both oil and air....from what i've been told, fram is OK on air filters. not outstanding...but nothing sub par like there crap in a can oil filter.

I have had considerable experience with K&N filters. I've run them on off-road
motorcycles in Baja and nothing stops dirt better if they are properly prepaired. You
must spray fabric-filter oil onto the filter on the outside filtering surface only. Run a
small bead of grease on the top & bottom of the filter where it meets the metal top &
bottom covers and install a foam pre-filter oiled with foam filter oil. Dat's it!!

there's a guy in town with one of those foam edel's (had one anyways  ) on his v8 s10. it did a real # on a square foot or so spot on his hood. i think the paint that used to be there looked better than the brown rusty spot. :barf:
