Van tilt value??

I found a van tilt in a local yard, needs rebuilt though (flops sideways a little) it needs paint and levers are pitted. My question is what is it worth and how big a job is it to fix the flop problem? Bearing in there or what needs replaced?
Thanks, Gord

If it "flops" around the problem could be in the racks and parts to repair it might not be available. Without seeing it to really know what is wrong with it I would assume the worst because I have not seen a tilt that "flops". It is only worth whatever good parts are on it. I would not pay over $20 for it.

easy fix... you do need to get into it... there are 4 bolts that hold a collar down and with all the action that the wheel see's in its life, they get loose... get a break down picture of the tilt column and take it apart and take those 4 screws/bolts out and put some lock-tight on em... they are great columns...

Thanks guys, it seems loose on one side, the side toward the door. I was thinking the same Jim, I thought if I could get it for $20 I would take a chance on it. Todd...where would I get a break down picture? dealer? Thanks, Gord

The service manual has a picture of the tilts broken down. If you don't have one get one, very helpful. Not a cure all, but it helps on a lot of things.

As cheap as possible. Like JimKshortstep4X4 said " not over $20.00 in that condition". My 2 cents anyway.

gord, yes as 71swb4b4 said any one of the chevrolet truck 67-72 service manuals have the break down piece by piece of all the columns including the tilt... its like rebuilding a carburetor... just lay it out and pay attention because there are springs in them... its fun... then you can paint the parts before reasembly... todd

Got a good picture and info from Jim, Thanks again Jim, just been too busy to get back to the yard and see what he will take for it. Thanks for all the input guys, if I get it bought I'm sure I'll have more questions for you!!
