CS130 Alternator wiring question
Has anyone installed a CS130 alternator (later model GM) and if so how did you wire it up? I have no idiot light for the alternator.
|
The battery wire should be obvious. The S terminal isthe voltage sensing wire, hook the to the origional buss bar(red wires on DS fender well). The L terminal goes to a switched ignition source THRU A 35-100ohm 3+watt resistor. This circuit needs this resistor to keep from frying the electronics in the Alt.

So if you have the light do you still need a resistor?

^ no, use the light in place of the resistor.

what about if you are using a voltmeter, would that act as the resistor?
|
^No.

I found a pigtail with the correct resistance in the wire that AC Delco makes for this; part # 8078 and cost $21.88 from Advance Auto parts.

Thats good to know, a lot of people have had trouble finding a resistor that will work.

Bought mine from partsamerica. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...artnumber=8078

When I switch to internal regulator alt few months ago, I bought 75 ohm 3 watt resistor from a local electronic shop; 50 cents each, Still working well. I just coverd the resistor in some kind of sheild to protect it from heat and possible trauma. I bought 3 of those. if you like I can look for them. I don't promiss to find them though since my place is a mess right now.

You could definately make a nicer harness than that jumper I listed. This was an easy way to go though. Just plug it in.
