added some new ads to 73-87.com

Haven't updated the site in a white, so I added some new ads to it tonight. I acquired these from a couple old magazines I purchased a while back.

Enjoy. :)

Big10 ad
1980 inline six ad
1981 ad
1980 Indy Hauler ad
Impact ad

jermasaurus 06-10-2005 12:59 AM

I would have went for the Indy Hauler back then. Happen to know what the impressive horsepower is that the 6 cyl. ad mentions?

It doesn't say, but I would assume around 125 or so. I can look in my '76 dealers booh when I get home and find out.

Ogier 06-10-2005 01:08 PM

That indy hauler must have been fairly rare. I have never seen one. But then, there are a lot of vehicles that I haven't seen.

I have seen a tucker once though. They need to make that one again. :D

Awsome adds. Indy hauler wouldve been a neat truck to have

80BIG10 06-10-2005 01:19 PM

I've heard before that some of the Big 10's were able to run on leaded or unleaded fuel. Anyone have any details on that...what years/what was diffrent?

bigblock73 06-10-2005 01:41 PM

Yeah, I would like to have an Indy Hauler someday too. I wanted to buy Joes a while back, but money was an issue. Now he traded it in on me so I will have to find another someday. :(

80big10, don't have a answer to your question, but perhaps Brandon will chime in...he owns one too and might have the answer. :)

I love the wording in the IMPACT ad.
"Trucks are being asked to do more than work.." "Pickups are taking the duty of the family car."
Wow, these guys are like, psychic! Look at the most of the modern "trucks" and few are used as trucks!

Sure wish I would have known that...

I was way upside down in that truck. I put a new engine and transmission in it, but it still needed a lot. The cab floor was rusty, bed had some rust and was bent up a little, the front fenders and hood were rusty and the doors had speaker holes cut. I'm moving out of my shop while I continue to look for a place to buy so I had to make room.

Anybody want to buy the Gentleman Jim?

chevyjr73 06-14-2005 07:46 PM

i think it's cool the pics of the guys driving in them. you wouldn't see nobody in ads driving trucks with cowboy hats on nowadays......YEEHAW!!!!!! :metal:

bigblock73 06-14-2005 08:01 PM

Joe, why are you selling the GJ?? I thought that was your favorite ride?

Also, I just picked up 93 Popular Mechanics magazines from 75-88 and got a ton of 73-87 ads out of them. I still need to scan them all of course, but once they are scanned I will be adding them to the site. I also now have quite a few duplicates, anyone interested in these old ads...maybe for their garage, collection, family room...whatever? If so, I will get some pics of what I have.

They are all for sale at this point. I really want to get to work on the 86 project truck I've been putting off for 3 years. I'd even like to get rid of my 84 SWB 4x4 that I've had for 9 years. I want to build that 86 then a 74 Jimmy. Those and my 86 Diesel would be enough...

Joe

I think it is just a matter of the Big 10's not having catalytic converters. Someone else on this board did a nice write up on the Big 10 that basically said the Big 10 package was just a way to get around emissions standards which had recently been implemented for light trucks. I was a kid when regular leaded fuel was still sold, but I seem to remember that it would clog up the catalytic converter on "new" cars. Other than that, any car will run on regular gas.

I enjoy these old adds. The Big 10 pictured in the first add is pretty much identical to how my truck looked from the factory. That color scheme is number 25 Catalina blue and number 20 Sky blue.
