New drop spindle wont budge. FIXED 06/11/05

Hi guys,

I've finally made progress on the truck, but I hit a snag. the upper and lower control arms went on well. Greased the ball joints and fit the spindle on. It was tense for a moment because there wasn't enough weight to hold the truck down. Anyway... I got the spindle on, but it won't budge. I loosened the bottom castle nut to hand tight and the top one is as loosened to where I still feel safe. I tried putting on the rim and tire to see if additional weight would help....no help. Before I bolted everything together, I had put the spindle on the top joint and it moved pretty easy. I don't remember trying the lower balljoint. I'll be checking that today. Anyway, I think I might have gotten ripped off by "jokers" (checkers) on my ball joints. It may be the wrong ones. Anybody got any other ideas of what may be wrong?

It's amazing what a good night's rest will do you. I came back fresh and found that the spindle had rubbed against the curved part of the upper a-arm. I had to grind off some of the a-arm and 1/8th of an inch off of the upper spindle so that they wouldn't bind. It took me 3 hours to grind/install/grind/install/grind/install. I didn't want to take off more than what was necessary.

I was about to suggest this to you. I went out yesterday to try to move mine on my 92. It would not move as well cause its caught on the upper arms. No big deal though cause there is no tire on there to put weight on the springs. The arm is maxed down so it will never be in that position when driving.

you are right, but when I worked on my S10 before, it never had binded so I thought that it is how it normally is. Thanks for looking at the thread!
