Ok....some of you have followed along the last 3 1/2 years since I got the one ton, and decided to do a caddy big block.
Many ppl supported me, some called me an idiot, and I actually got some hate e-mail on it. (no joke) :me2:
Well, even if you haven't been here since longhorn day one... most all of you know that the 425 I installed fragged the second day it was on the road. Very depressing. :drama:
Well....tonight, I am pickin up the replacement engine.

better...
A caddy 500. :ww:
I'll be stayin up all night saturday at the shop workin on the engine, ( :crazy: ) cleaning it up, doin some of this, doin some of that, checkin the bearings....that kind of crap.
Then, in 2 weeks, I plan on doin the engine swap.


And....with any luck...I'll be rippin up the rear tires shortly after that.

Sounds like a tire shreader for sure. I am sure you learned a lot the first time around, so this time should be that much easier. Good Luck Andy!!

My dad always said to me, "Son, remember, there is NO replacement for displacement". I agree and I can't wait to see the pics of it doin a burnout by punchin' it on 20 MPH roll :metal: :)

I've been keeping up with this "saga" since I registered on the board. I hope this one works out for you. 500 cubic inches ought to get it done real nice! Do you plan to leave it stock? I'm sure you're just after getting it running first then make a decision from there.

Well, I got it! It's in the trunk of the town car right now. :crazy: (I hope the coils hold up till tomorow)

I tried goin to the shop for better (non night time) pics, but with the good guys thing goin on this weekend, the boss man has the whole lot FULL of hot rods, and no one wanted me swingin a huge eng hoise around in there.
So here is sits, in the trunk, parked on the street...car sittin too low to pull in the drive. :(

I'm holding off on installing it so i can pull it apart and check it out real good. Next weekend, I'll have my son, so I can't spend all that time with my truck, so 2 weeks from now will be the soonest I'll have shop time and space.

Once the old engine gets pulled out, I'm going to drag the truck over to the radiator shop (in house....3 bays over) and use the steam cleaner to blast the front of the frame clean, then I'll be hitting it with POR and Chassis black as a top coat.

Here's some pics....I'll probably be loading up some more sunday morning when i get home.

look how low that sucker is sitting....would you belive it RIDES GOOD...and it'll still spin the right rear....granted, only for a foot or so, but it'll still spin. ;)
Had a cop tail me all the way back from the shop to the house, as soon as I got out, he asks me what the h*ll is wrong with my car, I removed the bungie cord and he's like WOAH! WTF is that doing in there!?!?!

I think it makes sence...trunk...truck, sounds the same to me. ;)

Oh, and as far as stock or not.... right now, fundage requires it to be stock. I have an edelbrock 750 and an hot coil on stock HEI...actually, it has an adjustable vec can on it too.
I plan to do a timing chain and oil pump before stabbin it, but that's well over 100 bucks right there. Later on, I plan an edelbrock intake...that is 250 clams right there.
One day, it may get a cam, but I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with it with just the intake, carb, hot HEI, and free flowin pipes (manifolds still). I know the 425 was enough to suprise the crap outa me....I can't wait to fire this monster up and hit the loud pedal. ;)

:lol: and I was worried about hauling a small block in my van!!!

Same thing will happen to this motor if you dont change those rearend gears.

I don't think I ever saw anyone haul a BB in a car trunk before. lol

1976 Caddy Coupe DeVille 95k on the clock, complete engine minus carb and dist.

I just rebuilt a 76 motor for mine, 514 now. I also converted over to the small chamber heads for 10.2 compression.

I have a bunch of misc. parts off that motor I didn't use, so if anything comes up you need give me a shout. The 552 casting heads off it are in really good shape too (big chamber) if yours have something wrong mine are cheap.
The original pistons/rods from that motor are in great condition too, I have no use for them.
If you need advice on where to buy new parts for yours give me a shout. I've pretty much bought stuff from all of them at one time or another.

good luck andy,glad you found another one too,from what i hear the 500 is a big difference over the 425.ive been working on the cosmetics of my truck past couple months. then im going back to the motor-valve job and new springs and intake.the valve train seems to be the weekest link other than the factory cam.if i had mine tore down i would think about new valve springs off the bat.it comes outa the hole like the worlds going to end but runs flat on top,thou your allready hitting a hundred-haha. i have had very good luck with mine ,ive put 16,000 miles on it since ive had it.these motors you could drive it with a spark plug wire off and you wouldnt know it. p.s. i love the picture of your towncar,i have woundered what my 83 delta 88 would look like with another motor in the trunk-haha

its mainly torque,probably around 500 ft lbs out of a 80,000 mile junkyard motor,theres some guys making serious horsepower on another board(cowboyseven.us)one guy is runing 10.50s in a fullbodied ,iron heads, all accessories 79 coupe deville and creme yellow at that-pretty cool,a guy runing mid 9s in a cad powered mustang.high performance parts are starting to be made for this motor from several vendors,aluminum heads ,solid cams,roller cams,rods-allot of neat stuff.the best way to put it is there is no subsitute for cubic inches
