Rear Seat Ideas
 

I thought I wanted to use third row tahoe seats with integrated seatbelts in my blazer, but after reading this post

I have questions. They are talking about the fronts (which I'd like to use integrated seat belted seats out of an HD), but I am more concerned with using the rear "fold away" seats. I planed to use extra bracing under the bed and build a subfloor with steel to use the original mounting hardware. I'm not sure this thread has provided many answers.

Does anybody have plans to do something like this, or have done this? I know Jamie did and I thought it looked solid. I will have two children occupy the rear seat and I don't want to take any chances. Any suggestions?

Use whatever seats you like.
It's the seat belts that are making it all an issue.

Go for the comfy seats you had in mind and just use the blazer factory belt set up.

My kids have logged tons of miles/smiles in the blazer, just make sure the lap belt is around their little hips and not across the tummy. ;)

I wanted to use the integrated seat belts. I guess my question is whether or not to use the seats with the integrated belts. I agree with the what makes you happy plan and I liked the idea of the integrated seat belts. If they are a problem, I could easily, and more cheaply use the 3rd row seat from say a 99 suburban and use the factory belts.

I built a full roll cage out of 1.75" .225" wall DOM tubing.

No issues mounting whatever I want :)

You used third row seats out of a 2001+ Tahoe and the integrated seat belts. I didn't think the rollbar would be a problem, but I was worried about the safety of the integrated seat belts.

I haven't added anything yet. I plan to do use a third seat with 4 point race harness'.

My point, which I didn't stated very well:

If the GM engineers did their research, which I believe they have, the seat belts in the integrated mounts are sturdy enough to hold quite well.

It's the mounting of those seats I would worry about. The floors of your rig are probably not engineered the way the floors of that Burb is...

Oh ya I planned to build a subfloor out of steel square tubing and plates underside. Jamie did his this way and it looked solid to me. After reading through the post I linked to at the beginning of this I was questioning my plan.
My blazer isn't going to be a trail-rig or anything like that, but It will haul the family up to the mountains for camping and around town for fun. It will also serve as my daily driver.

First thing: I am no expert. This is my opinion only.

My cage was designed by a NASCAR chassis fabricator and built using materials and techniques he specified. I also had my welds x-rayed. Computer modeling,structural analysis and existing chassis designs point to a 200 mph barrel roll and holding structural integrity!!!

Stingray has a very valid point, talking about installing these seats in our old iron. You should have a pro take a look at it. I didn't trust my children's lives to it "looks good enough".

When the time comes, I will have to seek some professional advice about this. It looks like I will have quite a while to think about this anyway. Thanks for the input. The safety of my girls is the most important thing.

You neeed that plate you're talking about to go under the bed.... same goes for the roll bar, if the backing plates arent there bolts and nuts will get pulled right through the floor god for bid...

Regardless of which seats I decide to use I'll be using plates on the underside. I have plates for the rollbar already.

I have plans to use the third row seats from a 2001 or newer to get the integrated seat belts that way the passengers have shoulder restraint

Sorry if this is old news. I am using a brand new third seat removed from a 88 Suburban. I am also installing the floor brackets as well so it can be used as it was originally intended.

I used third row seats from a 2002 tahoe. They worked out pretty well i will do a search and see if the pictures on still on the site

Do the third row Tahoe seats fit between the fender wells like the original seats? Can someone provide the dimensions of this seat?? What about the seat mounting, does it mount "as is" or do you need to fabricate a mount? I like the idea of using these seats as it will match my front buckets from a 2000 Silverado

yes they are a perfect fit, you will have to fabricate a mounting system. They hook into half inch rods
