Is this cab brace common or unusual?
2 Attachment(s)
This short brace, about a foot long goes from the inner rocker to the latteral beam on the drivers side only, on a Chevy cab. It is installed about 2" behind the front seat hump. It looks totally stock but my GMC doesn't have it. They are both 72, camper specials with aux tanks and bench seats. Could someone tell me why this brace (?) was added just on the drivers side?
One picture was taken from the front bottom and the other from the rear bottom. |
Very strange...never seen that and it does not appear to be in the assembly manual either.

bracket
a lot of those custom campers had a secondary tank and had a tank switch located in that area. just above the bracket in your top picture, there appear to be holes that could have been where the tank switch was located and removed. i'd bet the bracket was there to protect the switch from getting dismantled from road debris and off road brush or rocks. just a thought, tripp.

Our 72 cab (camper special) had the dual tank setup with the valve in the floor just behind the same kind of brace. Tripp is right, it is a protection for the valve which hangs down through the floor about 4". Without the shield the valve would be subject to getting ripped of very easily.

:agree:
and if you continue to bend into strange positions for taking pics your back will go out again. ;) |
Tripp, Jim...That makes total sense. This cab came from a factory aux tank truck. My GMC has a dealer installed aux tank. The darn GMC dealer left out the safety sheild!!! Hey, I know where to get one. Looks like my cab is going to turn into a parts cab, LOL.
68C15, LOL, thanks for the chuckle. Yeah, it's amazing how easily I forgot how much agony I was in, after I healed. You're right, though, I need to be more carefull. I keep forgetting I have a 21 and 17 year old. |
