4x4 fills like sticking

Hi I have a 84 chevy 4x4 it has a 208 transfercase and the problem I am having is when it is out of 4wheel drive adn the front driveshaft is spining free you go around a corner and it fells like it is in 4 wheeldrive slightly. the front will slide but if you put it in 4 wheeldrive will locks in.the front hubs are in the free position.. Thanks any help please.....

Although the hubs are in the free position, they may be sticking and not releasing. If so, they may release if you back the truck up for several feet. If the hubs are sticking, maybe they need to be taken apart, cleaned, and re-assembled with fresh grease.

transfer case

how can you tell if your transfer case is not coming out of 4 wheel high?

You should be able to turn the front drive shaft freely if the hubs are not locked in and the transfer case is in 2wd.
