More Blazer progress....
 

Here's a pic of the progress. I finally got the rear end back after having it in the shop. I had all new bearing and seals put in. I was quoted $250-300. Boy, did I get a surprise when I picked it up.....$433!!!! I was pi$$&d!!! I hate when someone quotes you one thing and does another. He didn't even hot tank the rear or clean it up at all!!! I did also get the 6 lug axles redrilled to 5 lug. The machinist welded up the holes, turned down the hub and installed the studs for $75. A great deal. I then had to get new Suburban rear drums. All in all, it worked out fine. I also, made the center connection point for the Watts Link setup. It is all in now. I am building a couple of fuel cells this weekend and I will be building my first Blazer tank as well. I'll post pics as soon as it is done. Later, FuelCellGuy

Oh yea, I am replacing the rear springs as soon as the body is on. I don't know what the ride height is going to be yet. Later, FCG

what is a Watts Link setup? any pics? Keep the updates coming!

Watts linkage
 

Watts linkage is a different version of the panhard rod. It uses 2 arms with a pivot in the center This set up avoids the side ways arc as the panhard rod pivots.

This is a higher priced version of what I am installing. I paid $70 for mine from Speedway Motors. It keeps the rear end centered better than a Panhard rod. I am not doing air ride this go round either. I just thought it would be better and different. I found out the other day that the PT Cruisers have the same setup from the factory. Later, FuelCellGuy

Good to see progress. Don't know if I told you but I put gas in the tank you made that sits on my flatbed - Took about 43 gallons - a little hard to know for sure cause I had put some in from a couple 5 gallon tanks before getting to the gas station.

I was quoted $450 on a rebuild and figured I'd do it myself. With the help of this board it only ending up costing my $200 and I can now rebuild a diff. :cool:

I wish you were closer, you could have had the job if you were interested. When I quote something, I stick to it. I have burned myself a few times but not badly. I just think a professional should stick to their work or at least call you and say it's going to be a bit more. The sicker shock is over, the rear end is in and I'll be moving on to the next step. No biggie now!!

I was building a few fuel cells today and decided to build the Blazer one as well. I still have to put the in-tank pump in, sending unit, and filler neck. Maybe more next weekend. Later, Mark

Yea, I took it out, this frame was really rusty. Another year, and it would have been junk. I am going to put a new back in though. As soon as I run new brake and fuel lines, I'll be dropping the engine/tranny in. Then, on to the body. Later, Mark

I had been looking at that watts link at totally polished but cannot seem to spend that kinda money on something most people will never notice.. How is the build qualityfir and finish of the speedway motors set-up.. Also do you happen to have a part # on the speedway kit I have a catalog but cannot seem to find the kit in there??

I think, for the price, the quality is second to none. I agree with you on the Totally Polished kit. I would have to be building a $50,000+ show piece in order to drop that kind of cash. I think the Speedway piece will work and function fine. Later, Mark
