Where do you put the speakers?
 

As my son and I work on the 68 I was wondering where everyone is putting their stereo speakers?
I would like to see some good ideas and pic's. :fb:

Well, that's the question that bothers us all. If you take out the gas tank then you have room to build a set up behind the seat. If you leave the tank in then you are pretty much stuck with the doors, kickpanels, and under the seat.

I'm personally going to put my 6x9's in the doors, but there are a lot of guys who will cringe when I say that.

I'm in a similar situation. I see a lot of 6x9's cut into the lower front corner of the door. I see a lot of kick panels with a mid/tweet combo installed. I see some people replace the mono dash speaker with a pair of 4", and others opt for the 4 4" speakers in the Highliner headliner. The choices are endless really, and what it really boils down to is how much customization you want to do.

I have always cut 6x9's in the doors. I removed the gas tank for extra room and the tweeters are in the corners of the lower dash.

6x9s in the door is good but theres whething problems when doing that sometimes if ur going to u have to make sure all ur weatherstipping is good and the door and windows seal properly when u shut em otherwise u could ruin a perfectly good pair of speakers but if u cover em properly it shouldn't matter anyway

I recall when I built my last 69 I came across a kick panel that had a 6X9 speaker in it. Maybe someone can shed some light on this.

I put 2 REAL NICE 4" speakers in the dash exactly where the 4x9 came from (mono), then I put 2 Sony Xploid 150 W under the seat pointing directly forward. I have to adjust the balance between front and rear sometimes, but with the 10 CD changer in the glovebox I have a NO CUTTING CD quality installation which sounds pretty good. (the controllers for the CD are in the ash-tray cause I don't smoke).

If you put your speakers in the doors crutchfield has some speaker liners (baffles?) that will go around them to protect them from them elements. I strongly suggest using them for any in door installation. I have one in the drivers door since the hole was already there and for the passenger side I put it in the opening behind the seat. A 6X9 barely fits in there.

My son & I put 2 good quality 4'' in the dash in the stock location. 2- 6"x9" in the doors & 2 -10" subs under the seat. The subs really rattle your hemmroids pointing straight at yer butt. Mike

What about under the dash, pointed downward? Thats something that I thought about doing.

For those of you that mounted two 4" speaker in the stock location, do the magnets not interfere with the CD player? And where are they attached to the dash at? Thanks.

Woodman13-I'm VERY interested in those kickpanels that let you put 6x9's in them. I really don't want to cut my doors, but that seems the only route to put 6x9's in your truck. Heres a link to a post of the same question that I had. Several guys gave me ideas, but none I liked besides the possibilities of a kick panel.

I removed the gas tank from behind the seat. I built A box for 3 MTX 10" SUB's. Phoenix gold 6 1/2" component behind my door panels. 2 phoenix gold tweeters on my dash (corners). 2 MBQuart 4" drivers in the center dash. A indash JVC AM/FM CD player with an AUX input on the face of the player for my portable MP3 player. 2 Phoenix gold AMP's and signal processer under the seat. I am still in the process of the install when I am finished I will have PIC's :metal: :metal: :metal:

how do the subs sound? i would think you lack the proper air capacity with 3 crammed in there. or have you not gotten them put together yet?
