Colorado Board Members - Emissions ?
 

I'm considering a move to the metro Denver area next year and trying to determine if my '79 1/2 ton would have any issues with inspection. Are they really strict like California, or are they somewhat reasonable?

My truck is basically stock, but its missing some of the original underhood equipment that might be considered emissions stuff. A previous owner installed headers. I went back and installed used, dual cats to pass PA inspection. Obviously with the headers the heat riser equipment is long gone, and it has an open element air cleaner (easily remedied). The charcoal canister is present and functioning, as is the EGR system. The engine was recently overhauled and runs great.

Oh yeah, it also has rust in the rocker panels, bottom of fenders, and inside bed. Floors are solid.

you could get legal headers. I got mine form Edelbrock. They came with the heat riser tube and air injection

If I am correct I believe the emission requirements aren't that bad if the vehicle is 25 yrs or older. I register my trucks in an emission exempt count though.

register out of city limits and you wont have problems

My 75' K-10 is registered in jeffco,has no cat's or any emmission equipment not even an evaporative canister,has headers aftermarket carb/intake and passed emmissions with flying colours,if you plan on keeping it a while you can get collectors plates they are more expensive but last 5 years and only require a one time emmission test as long as you own it otherwise older vehicles need to pass the test once a year.It sucks if I could I'd have it registered in another county.

emissions test are gay. they make absolutely no sense. neighbors within 2 blocks of eachother can have two totally different sets of emissions regulations to abide by. but then again alot of things dont make sense in colorado like some cities banning pitbulls????and the city telling me i cant have my 32 ft gooseneck enclosed parked in my own driveway but my neighbor can have his boat and a half parted out astrovan laying in his front yard???

I agree emmission tests are :bs:,also sb400 you mentioned your rust,that won't be a problem they don't have inspections here.

Thanks everyone, I read the actual legal regulations on some government website, and it seemed pretty strict and also mentioned something about rust. We have both emissions and safety inspections here in PA. The sniffer part of the emissions are pretty easy to pass, but a visual inspection can be easy or hard depending on who you go to. Also safety inspections can be pretty subjective...all done by independent mechanics not a state facility.
