broken shifter guide help

My shifter guide is broken and wonder if anyone knows a fix for this besides buying a new gage cluster. I bought a new shift indecator thinking the cable was broke but now find out there was a guide that the cable runs on that is now missing on mine. Come to find out when I pulled the gage that the cable was in good shape. Did not know there was a guide till a friend told me. Thanks

You shouldn't have to replace the entire cluster. The shift indicator is removable with a couple screws. You should be able scrounge one up from a junk cluster.

Beaterc10, it is not my shift indicator that is broken but the guide at the bottom of the cluster.

I put a sheet metal screw into the dash at the spot where the cable should ride on my 77. has worked well for a year now......

Thanks, I guess that is about the only way to go. Can not think of anything else.

I was installing miy shift indicator the other day and got the nylon cable under the screw that holds on the shift indicator. It was dark and I didn't see it. When I put it in gear it broke the plastic piece off that the nylon cable runs through. I JB welded it back on and haven't tried it yet. If it won't last I will try the screw. That did cross my mind when it happened.

I think the screw would be best. JB Weld is good but would not think it would hold up after you keep putting pussure on it as you pull the selector over to the gear you are in all the time. Do they make JB Weld for plastic?

JB weld will work on anything. I used it to glue a plastic piece on a vaccuum cleaner that held a screw which holds the pressure of the belt from the motor. Worked for years. I think it has to be prepped right to really hold. I have used it on a tiller engine block on the tab that holds the carb. I worked in the oil field for 10 years and we used it to glue the joints of casing (pipe) together when we finnished up a well. It was originally designed for that and was made by JB Hughes for that specific purpose.

OK, I might try jb weld. I guess you have to sand and prep it like you said real good. I have not used it much but looks like it should be good stuff.
