What is a Class A Hitch?

Hi

I have told that a 1979 Blazer I am interested that it has a Class A hitch that was installed from the factory.

Is this the same as a Class 1 hitch?

I want to tow a racecar on a trailer so need to know if this will be safe or not.

Thanks
Clive

I think a Class A rating is European as opposed to the number rating that the US uses. A Class A has a maximum towing weight of 500 kg (~1,102 lbs.) This is about half towing weight of a Class 1 hitch. To tow a racecar, I would think that you would need at least a Class 3 hitch (or a Class E). Do you know the towing capabilities (engine, transmission, gearing, etc or GAWR/GVWR) of the Blazer?

I believe GM only puts on a class 3 or 4 on all their trucks.
