Edelbrock carb and intake?

Hey guys, I am shopping for an intake and carb for my 98 vortec 350 engine.

What have been your experiences with edelbrock intakes and carbs?

Looking at 2116 intake and a 500cfm manual choke carb.

Your opinions and experiences greatly appreciated.

Anyone have a distributor suggestion?

thanks

500 is probably a little small, even for a stock 350 I'd go with 600-650 CFM.

Doesn't your motor already have a good dizzy? HEI is where it's at!

the dist. got plucked before i could get it out of the junkyard.

so any dist. ideas?

Run a small HEI, stock Chevy. (Just looks better)

The large will fit with your carb, too.

I also agree on the 650CFM carb, the vortecs can flow a lot of air/fuel.

As for an intake. You're pretty limited with the carb to vortec heads.

I'd run an Edelbrock Air Gap. Supposed to be the best out there. I didn't check out your part number, but Summit does list on. Pricy, but all the mags say it's the best out there, as does most TV shows.

I'd got with the Edelbrock 1406 carb .

Just don't go with Summits house brand dist. I have had nothing but trouble with 2 of them so far. Went with a Mallory and it works great.

I have a Performer RPM Air Gap....and I love it.
I've not heard all the best on their Carbs, mainly that the bowls don't keep the heat of the motor away from the fuel...but that may not be an issue with your application, but they are typically spec'd for their line of manifolds and I couldn't knock anyone for using one.
I like the Holley Street Avenger.

I also have the performer RPM on both my truck and Suburban. I have the Edelbrock on the '70 and the Carter AFB on the '86. Both are made by Edelbrock. On the Carter, I had to weld the passing gear bracket on because it did not come with this. Works great. Just have to make sure all gas in out of carb and surround carb before you think of welding on one. Welding and Gas do not go together.

IMO The 500 Edelbrock is the way to go. I had one on a stock 350. The throttle response was incredible. I don't like the electric chokes on Edel. carbs. It's like they always run rich. If you run a larger cam you'll probably have to go with the 600 or 650. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 500.

I would also suggest a Holley 570 Street Avenger. Excellent carb!

Just my.02

anybody else, opinions?

What are you hoping for out of the motor? If you want a torque beast you could run a Demon 500cfm 2bbl ... :) You won't have much top end with that, of course... lol

I have an Edelbrock Performer with a Q-jet on it now. I plan to replace these with a RPM airgap and a 1407 Eldelbrock carb soon, (*) but I am planning to sacrifice bottom end to build mid-range hp.

If you have the funds --- those motors were desinged to run on injection.

(*) The carb will be a mid size Demon eventually.. but I have the bid Carter type carb now and carbs are un-cheap!

A lot of guys in my general geographic area have done this, but I do not really know any of them.
I am looking for just a good all around power band. I want all my hp and torque below 5 grand. This will be a working truck, not a racer.
I need to be able to tow, and haul etc. I have a 6000 pound camper that I want to pull with it.

Like the Street Avenger or the Demon. Had a manual choke but with the winters here the electric choke seems to work better. Running a Truck Avenger(good carb).
