I think I have those parts. I'm not sure of the shape, they are from a used van tilt column I took apart a while back and never put it back together. If you have apicture it will help me ID the part.

Here is a pic of the parts related to the lower bearing:

1) Plastic bearing adapter

2) Lower bearing assy, available at the dealer as PN 5698407

3) Retainer cup, available from LMC (other vendors?)

4) Retainer clip, available from LMC (other vendors?)

I could not find a source for the bearing adapter.

Jim

PS: I don't have any of these parts to sell.

$15 to your door. No broken pieces. I cleaned the old grease out of the bearing with WD40. Just repack it when it gets to you. The plastic bearing adaptor and bearing seems to be pressed together. I didn't attempt to separate them. Ther's no need if you plan to reuse the bearing.

Item #1 - Plastic retainer ring

I have found items 1, 3, and 4 are available in Astro van columns. The Astro column uses a bigger diameter shaft which means the bearing is different but the other pieces are the same. Have not yet gone to GM dealer to see about the plastic retainer(available separately??? or only with bearing??) If you can buy the correct early van bearing separately(GM part number posted above) maybe the retainer from an Astro van is available separately.

I went to my favorite yard today and found several Astro van columns and robbed a few parts. As usual I broke one retainer but wound up with one good one. What is the trick to inserting the bearing back into the plastic retainer without breaking the ring?? The plastic seems so brittle. Would it help to heat the ring in HOT water?

Hope this helps those with van tilts that have bad lower bearings.
