4-Wheel Drive Conversion?
 

Alright, I've got a '76 Chevy c-10 long bed project truck, and I'm wanting to convert it to 4-Wheel Drive. Now, what all is involved in such a swap, and what all would I need to do this? Would it be more practical to get a 4-wheel drive frame? Or to find everythin gi need at a junk yard? My goal/plans for the truck are 12" suspension, 4" body lift, 44" boggers, 5.14's front and rear, paint it viper blue, redo the whole interior. Pretty much looking to build a HUGE weekend toy, that I could take on short trips, haul something with it, or put around town reliably. Any suggestions/ideas are greatly appreciated.

Look for a k20 or k30. 2nd gens can be found for dime a dozen. Also the 3/4 ton running gear will be need for those boggers. I think 12 inch lift by itself will be fine. maybe a little fender trimming.
If you really want a shortbed i would still find a 4wd frame and swap in all heavy duty running gear.

3/4 ton diffs will no be enough if you plans include anything else but driving slowly on the street. One ton running gear is mandatory for 44s if you want to wheel.
I suggest you sell the truck you have now, and try to find a 77-87 (91 if you want a crewcab) K30. The one tons already come with a dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear (dana 70 dually) which are strong enough for massive tires. The K30s also have stronger frames than the 1/2 and 3/4 tons and are less likely to crack.

That's a lot of lift and a lot of tire. I would definately suggest 1 ton running gear too. Make sure you re-enforce the frame around the steering box. You'll tear that the first time you 4x with those tires. ORD sells a kit.
