Too big a project?

We have a 2002 3/4 ton longbed 4wd coming up for sale soon. It has 100k+ miles but the front end just got replaced as well as the transfer case and tranny. I would like opinions on swapping out the entire chassis with drivetrain. Does this sound like a stupid move?

Is there a reason you want to use the frame from the 2000 truck? I will realize since the 84 is a shortbed it is not a 20 series. Is it a 4wd or not? Tell us what you are trying to accomplish and maybe we can offer better advice.

I would like to use the whole chassis for the better ride/handling/brakes. My truck is a 1/2 ton and 2wd. I would like the 4wd but I don't need it. I like the newer trucks but I like the looks of the 73-87 better. I guess I just want the look of my old truck molded to some new technology. Would be cool to let my wife drive it and not gripe about it. :metal:

I would suggest taking some measurements of the 2000 frame vs. the 84. You already know you are going to have to shorten it to match the wheel base of the 84. The question is will one be wider the other. I'm pretty sure the 2k track is wider so that may prohibit using the front suspension unless you lift it and adust the track by using custom offset wheels. You might be better off adapting as much of the 2k drivetrain to the 84 frame.... :)
