Axle question

Our 12 bolt rear end it eating axle shafts up really bad. The c-clip ends where the chamfer is always is worn down and a lot of play develops in the axle in and out. It is the second pair of shafts we put in and it is still wearing the ends off. Could the 35" tires be too much for the little axles? I know they are kinda hard to find and heard that because in '72 they used longer shafts. We tried a pair of shafts from a '70 and they were too short. Any other ideas of why the c-clip ends of the axle shafts are wearing down?

When did this problem start. did it start 10,000 miles after the 35" tires? if so, i'd say thats the problem. What kind of driving do you do?

Well, I just noticed it about 2500 miles ago and I'm sure they have about 9 or 10,000 miles on them. The truck was driven daily by my dad up and down hills and around tight corners, and now I drive it everyday up and down hills and it sees lots of 65 to 70 mph and I usually don't slow down to what the sign says around corners. I was hoping that these tires weren't the problem. Aren't they hardened from the factory? Should I go with some aftermarket hardened axles? That might be my last resort before I break down and put 3/4 ton axles under it.
