cracked dash cover repair??
Hello,
I have owned 3 different suburbans. All have had cracked vinyl or fabric of some sort in the Dash Pad. Has any one ever replaced this large piece that goes from one side of the dash to the other side. With speaker holes and defroster holes in. I don't want one of those coverover things. I would like some advice as to removal and replace and where would a person buy one. I have a 1991 Suburban. Thanks for any help. Mixednuts |
You can still get OEM vinyl dashpads. Alternatively, there are also aftermarket ones available. Some come already in the color you want, others only come in black, etc. and need to be spray painted with vinyl dye/paint.
You'll find 'em offered in most of the parts catalogs (Year One, LMC, Chevy Duty, Cheyenne, Golden State, etc.). Good luck! |
well i've fixed more than one in my life and on the 81-87 trucks i prefer the Coverlay brand cover. some covers are much thinner and are so warped out of the box that they are horrible. PREP WORK is the key . dry fit it several times and trim lightly where needed , usually only on the ends. THEN PAINT if you want to. clean your existing pad several times with laquer thinner then alcohol(not your good stash) just the Isopropyl type. apply silicone the way they say too. dont overdue it. WEIGHING IT DOWN until it dries is another critical thing. I use BIG Chilton manuals which incidentally is the ONLY thing i have found that Chiltons books are good for. :-). let dry overnight. DAVE

I sell the Coverlay covers that Crossy is talking about here:
http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/merc...tegory_Code=DC AND I just got a shippment of Dashes Direct full dashpads yesterday that I will be adding to the catalog. The '81-91's only come in either Blue or Black. I hope to have pics of them tomorrow and mock a couple up and added to the catalog ASAP. |
