Ignition Lock Removal

Hi guys- new to the scene, but I've been tooling on one project or another for a couple of years. Just picked up a 69 GMC longbed, and I'm trying to get the ingnition lock out of the dash- it's a $5 part, but I can't seem to get it pulled out- the original key has hardly any teeth left, and gets no grip- anyone have any ideas? Can these be removed from the back side?

Thanks - glad to be here- there are a ton of great trucks on here, I'll post some pics soon!

My athought is to turn the key to the acc position, push in the detent (small hole), turn the key the additional detent then pull the key out and try to pry it out with a pick or something similar. shouldn't be that difficult.

Longhorn man knows how to do this, where's he when you need him? I do know that you need to pick that small hole in the to get that switch out, but can't remember exactly how's done.

Anyways, welcome to the board!! :) :hiya:

Welcome to the board from Cantral ohio

Last one I did where the key would slide out while the ignition switch was on and the key was pulled I used a small hooked tool...think of a dental tool, the ones why use to reach in and clean your teeth... You can get small picks like this at sears.
