compressor

I am looking at buying a compressor for shop work and painting.
With out spending a fortune. Got my eye on one with 7 hp 60 gal tank 140 psi and 11CFM at 40 psi.

My main question is will the CFM be enough to run most paint guns?

Yes, that should work out nicely for you. If you were painting professionally, several cars per day, then you should step up to something bigger, but the size you're looking at is good. I just bought something like that a few weeks ago..... its Nice!!!!

HOLY CRAP !!!
Thats more than enough to run paint a paint gun. Sanders are where you run into trouble CFM wise. I have a 19 CFM 80 gallon unit and can run a sandblaster or line sander all day long but I remember the bad old days when I used a 9 cfm model....sends shivers down me back.
