gmc to chevy

There is this dude at work that has a 72 GMC. He wants to change the grill from the gmc to a 71-72 chevy. Besides changing the radiator support, what else? I told him that I believe that the fenders would not fit the grill. Do you have to use the 67-68 grill to fit the fenders. I'm I going crazy or this right. If he does this I might be able to get the gmc grill for cheap if anybody needs one.

Cheyenne Super 04-04-2002 07:35 PM

he will need both fenders, rad support and center grill support. the inner fenders may not work, not real sure

jay6891 04-04-2002 08:01 PM

He can use the 67-68 grill with his fenders though, right? He said he just doesn't like the 4 headlights the gmc has.

If he puts it together...I'd be REAL interested in that grille!!

ebfabman 04-04-2002 08:07 PM

Yes, the 67-68 chevy grill will bolt up to the GMC fenders but there will be trim holes to fill. unless he wants to use 68 fender trim

If he wants a little road trip, I have a set of great '69 and up fenders, a nice rad support, and a yukky '69 grill I'll be willing to trade him. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ubbhtml/wink.gif
The GMC all the way up to '72, used the '68 Chevy fenders.
If he wants a '69 or newer Chevy grill, he'll need the whole front clip. May as well get the hood too, otherwise it'll say GMC right above the Chevrolet lettering, or above the bow tie.
If he wanted to go with a '67/68 grill, it would bolt right on with a new rad support, but like said before, holes for trim could be troublesome, plus, the hood would need to be swapped too.
Best route would be to find a whole front clip.

72 gmc to 68 chevy would need 68 grille, hood bumper and rad support, im pretty sure gmc bumpers have the indentations in 69-72 for the parking lamps, right at the top edge of bumper, i have yet to actually look at a 69-72 gmc bumper, so im unsure on that, i had a chance to touch a 72 gmc, but they moved it to another neighborhood and now its in someones driveway farther off the road... hmm...

LOL Randy...yes, bumper should have the notch too, but a Chevy one will work in a pinch.

How about a different slant on the issue?

I have a '72 Jimmy also. And having had an original '70 Blazer, like paying $4800 for it in 1970, I did not like the quad lights on the '72J.

But I also know I want off road driving lights and fog lights, etc., and having seen the expensive bumper add-ons that people use, I am considering changing my outer lights to the hi-lo beam setup of the single headlight style and putting real flame throwers or yellow fog lights into the inner light housing.

It's just a thought before you go to the expense of a whole new clip.

This is not the same as putting offroad lights up on top.

I cannot tell you how this settup will work, but I have dreams of being able to let someone know they have their brights on, as well as flooding a night time rock crawl area with light.

I have some decent 69-72 chevy fenders and real nice core support, cheap.but dont know about shipping large parts.

I have come to the conclusion that the guy is a moron. He is still going to 67-68 grill but is going to CUT the center bar out, build a tube grill, and make himself some headlight bezels out of flat stainless. Give a millright tools and a welder and he can screw up anything. I just hope he dosn't start with a cherry grill before he starts hacking.
