Installing Front Coil Springs????
 

I am going to install new 3 or 4 inch drop coil springs on my 1970 C-20 and have no real clue as to how to go about doing it. If you guys could please let me know as to how to do this I would really apreciate the info. Thanks in advance

Here is how I did mine. First I jackedup and supported the truck on jackstands. Next remove the wheels, then on to the cotterpin which goes through the lower ball joint and nut. Losen the lower nut, but don't remove it. Then use a tool called a pickle fork to spread the spindle away from the ball joint and lower control arm. If this method doesn't work you will probably have to strike a hammer against the spindle to break the spindle loose. Once it pops loose I supported the lower a-arm. Then remove the nut and slowly lower the a-arm. Once the tension is off the spring pull it out. Install the new one and use the jack to raise the a-arm back up to the spindle and reinstall in reverse order.

It's been my experience that the ball joint will pop loose with a few well placed shots on the spindle with a hammer after you've loosened the ball joint nut... pickle fork can damage the grease boot, so I would try the hammer first, then the pickle fork if it won't budge.
