Need Info on 454 install in 71 C10
I got info from others here on my big block swap, but never thought about the engine tilt. I have a 71 C10 shortbed that had a 350/ 350 combo. I have put in my 454/400 combo and came across this issue. The angle of the motor was 7-8 degrees tilt back, like 4 degree on the carb plate. To me looked like crap. I messed with it here and there all week. Just could not find the motor mount tranny mount combo that leveled the engine. :whine:
I had resorted to cutting out my low hump and installed a high hump I had laying around and went with the stock 77 motor mounts instead of 68 bb mounts I have and jacked up the rear of the tranny. Now its close, 2 maybe 3 degrees tilt. But cant believe its still not level. Can someone tell me what combo they used to level out or as close to with there bb swap. I have a collection of mounts I could use, (bb,sb 67-77). If someone knows please let me know. Thanks, Rich |
have you tried the stock big block tranny mount spacers?
|
I swapped in a couple of 454 big blocks before.
I used stock big block mounts with stock trans mount all under a low hump cab. No problems with any of it. Basically, I followed the factory's lead, they did all the engineering work when they installed the 396 and 402 engines in these trucks. A big block is a big block. |
I havent tried a big block spacer, didnt know there is one. I will look to see if I can find one.
I have a set of stock 396 mounts out of a 68 that I tried and just switched out the tranny crossmember (which seemed just about the same). I am back to square one. There is no difference in the front carriage is there, Just thinking out loud but I dont know what the difference is. Any suggestions let me know. I am going back out in the shop and look at it again. Thanks, Rich |
just in case , one of the main reasons its angled is for pinion angle
