I believe this is a 1971 GMC. Is this the stock steering wheel?

Longhorn Man 10-09-2005 11:28 PM

nope, kinda looks liek a van steering wheel.
I think GM used this as a replacement though... there's quite a few owners who thought it was original on there rig.

Thanks. I've seen several of these steering wheels in in our trucks, so I was starting to wonder.

Does it look like this?

That's the same kind of van steering wheel I have in my truck. I can't stand it. It's shaped to fit your hands on an upright van steering column, so it's really uncomfortable in our trucks. I don't think that's the same as shown in the picture I posted.

I'm assuming that all 69-72 trucks had this style of steering wheel.

I was ordering parts a while back and asked if steering wheels were available. The parts guy checks and says ,"yeah, only in black though".I got all excited and ordered one.I was going to order a boatload since they weren`t reproed yet.Well,it can in and it was a later model like one of those shown, boohoo. To answer your question, yes 69-72 were one style,Vans too for awhile after that.Probably when they changed the fronts in,`79?

68 Stepside 10-11-2005 05:56 PM

I've seen numerous 73-up trucks with that wheel. Don't know when they stopped using them though.

pjmoreland 10-11-2005 06:05 PM

Ok, thanks guys. I wonder if GM put these steering wheels in any '72 trucks near the end of the year.
