oops shouldnt have cut this
I took the front springs out of my71 C10 454 combo wanting to lower them. I have drop spindles not installed yet and saw that the top of tire to fender edge was about 6 inches. So I thought cut 2 full coils out off from stock should be close. I was experimenting.
Oops lowered it to about 2 1/2 inches to top of tire and I dont have my drop spindles in yet and the front is real bouncy. And when I jack it up off the ground the springs come loose and fall out of place. So dont do what I did. Just so I know next time. How much if any can a person cut off a stock spring to lower it without comprismising the spring and ride quality. Thanks, Rich |

In my old 70 we heated them all the way around until they touched coil
to coil like a slinky, had to cut all the snubbers out, but the truck looked wicked, only bad thing is it road kinda like log wagon when you drove it. |
i read 2 coils and my jaw dropped. 1 as you know by now is the limit.

I cut two coils and with the a 283 and stock spindles it is NOT low enough. Mine rides fine but I will still be going to spindles and bags to get it where I want it. If you want a set of stock small block springs, I have an extra set. With a big block on stock small block springs and spindles it may be low enough for you...all depends upon on how low you want it.

how much does 1 coil get you? Can you do 1/2?
|
I dont suggest 1/2 coils. they need to sit in the pocket a certain way.

stllookin,
Do you know if 6 cyl springs are the same as sb. I have a spare 67 c10 with stock springs. I am looking for 3 1/2 to 4 in drop in the front. I have the 2 1/2 drop spindles what spring option would work best to get another 1 1/2 with a Big Block. Also anyone know if 77 vintage springs fit our 67-72 trucks or are they different???? |

And DON"T cut half coils. Through experience, the top of the springs will move around and make popping noises with a 1.5 coil cut. |
Springs? We dont need no stinkin springs

The six is heavier than the small block v-8 so they will probably raise it. Cutting one coil lowered me about 2 inches with my small block. boraxman...bags are much better and adjustable!

Yes, you can use the 77 springs. They interchange.
