Where to cut a blazer W/S frame?

1 Attachment(s)
I have this blazer windshield frame that I want to put on ebay in the future. I want to cut it so I can get rid of some of the extra junk around the shop. For those that may need this part, where is the best place to cut it for shipping? Thanks.

Seems like when I saw a post about this before, the person had cut the frame about 3 or 4 inches above the bottom. Anyone else remember that post? Jeff.

I would cut below the window opening in to the cowl area a little bit so that someone can replace it in the factory spot welds in the window opening. Good luck.

Earl, the best place would be 1 or 2 in. into the floor panels, that way the buyer has the most material to work with when grafting the "new" firewall to their blazer, of course if you can get somebody to pick it up, if shipping long distances, the firewall would have to be cut in half as to not pay a lot in shipping fees. Just my .02 cents

Paul :)

I don't know, but let me know when you get ready to sell it. BTW, since you're the expert on repairs, what do you think the difficulty rating is on repairing one of these that's rusted out?

I'd leave it "as is" until whomever is buying it tells you how much they need of it. Never know where the rot will be.

krue, not an impossible task at all.
I used some 'extra' parts of the windshield frame as clamps when I did mine.

What Kurt said!! Let the next owner tell you where and how much. If the firewall is good, it is worth as much as a frame left intact. I sold mine to a board member from Tenn intact. He wanted to see the metal under the windshield rubber so we removed the windshield and it was super. Sometimes even a totally rusted out Blazer will have good metal where you least expect it!!--Huck

I would also be interested in the frame when you are ready to sell it. Let us know when your ready to part with it. Its close enough that I could drive up to get it.

Re: Where to cut a blazer W/S frame?

Krue, it isn't very hard to do. It may be a little time consuming depending on where you splice. I like to use as much as possible. But if your rust is mostly along the top then do like vtblazer did his. If your blazer is in the mostly apart mode, then I would think about replacing the firewall up.
This one rust wise is about an 8.5 or better of 10. shape wise about a 7 of 10. It is a useful piece. It comes from a blazer that was 4 wheeled very hard. A lot of the spot welds everywhere on this blazer are popped loose. The whole tub is very flimsy. For course it is not a very big deal. I am building a 2wd blazer so I plan to replace everything rusty. I have about a 9.75 of 10 w/s frame to use so I want to sell this one. I'd say $225. ???

if you're going to ebay it out i'd just include a large section of the cowl//local pickup,or if they wanted to have it shipped let them tell you where they want it cut// my luck on selling cut parts(model A's and T's) on ebay is that they want them about 2" longer than what i figured was good

Earl, the one I have the top part (what I can see with the top on, I'm scared to take it off) looks good until you get to the corner where the top meets the side posts then from there down there is a lot of rust. I'll take some pics and start a new thread if you don't mind looking at it for me.:D

Earl, are you going to make a dvd of the repairs? If so I'll take one.

Thanks, Rg

Hey Jim, I hadn't thought of that. I'll say this....its a heck of a lot of work to film, edit, etc. Maybe I can film the repairs not edit anything and call it a blooper DVD....hmm, that still sounds like a lot of work.....
