Suspension lift kit for 2wd?
I have an '04 Tahoe. The wife wants it to look "tough" so she asked me to raise it up and put some bigger wheels/tires on it.
I'm not an offroad guy, so I don't know too much about this stuff. I know the rear can be blocked, but what about the front? Just looking for an inexpensive way to raise the whole truck 2-3 inches. Anybody have links or suggestions? |
Re: Suspension lift kit for 2wd?
Cheapest thing would probably just be a 3" body lift.

Re: Suspension lift kit for 2wd?
The body lifts come with bumper brackets to raise them up as well. I put a Perfromance Accessories body lift on my 03 Dodge 4x4 dually, along with a 6" Superlift kit. They make a good quality body lift. If you want to keep the stock ride, I'd go with the cheaper body lift. Just my .02

Re: Suspension lift kit for 2wd?
I'd rather use a suspension lift, but my buddy told me last night about Fabtech and I checked them out. Ack! $500 for just the front spindles is nuts.
How much work is a body lift? Fairly simple or? The same guy that told me to check out Fabtech told me his preference would not be a body lift. He says they work out ok but possibly make the bumpers less effective in the case of an accident? |
Re: Suspension lift kit for 2wd?
I put one on in about 2 hrs. with a buddy of mine on a Dodge truck. Nothing hard about it. Probably the hardest thing was putting the spacer on the steering shaft. Still nothing major. The bumpers aren't really that effective in any major accidents anyway. The brackets are pretty sturdy. The bumpers themselves are probably the weakest link if anything.

If you aren't gonna use the truck for offroading much, the body lift is the way to go. Cheaper....keep your stock ride...doesn't wear out front-end components.

Re: Suspension lift kit for 2wd?
Depending how high you wanna go you can do a torsion bar lift, and springs in the rear. Body lift will mess up the fan pulling air through the radiator and other little issues. Rvery body lifted 99-04 I've ever worked on prematurely killed the AC compressor cause it cant get enough air flow through the condenser at idle with the fan no longer in an optimal position....

Do the 2wd's have torsion bars? I thought only the 4x4s had torsion bars.

Yep, I just figured that out a couple of weeks ago. I was changing the oil and looking around...I was like, damn, where are the springs? Reminds me of my '66 Dart...oh I miss that puppy.
