What gears are in it?

My truck is an 86 Sierra Classic. It had a 305/TH350 with air. The rear has never been out of it. I'm just curious on what gears may be in my truck.
Thanks

273:1 possibly. Check RPO sticker in your glovebox.

Re: What gears are in it?

Most common gears are 2.73 and 3.08 ratios. But it could of been ordered with a pretty wide list of gears to choose from if they wanted.

The RPO might help if the differential has never been removed. There is a production code on the passenger side axle tube. That will tell what it was installed from the factory with. The only real way to tell is taking the cover off and looking. Not saying that you have to do so but you wont have any doubts about what it might be anymore.

My '86 Chevy lists the rear gears as 3.08 in the glove compartment. Most seem to have the 2.73 gears, though.

Mine does not even have a code. It just says it is 3.08. So simple that even I could figure it out. :)

Where did you find it? Was it on the housing? In the glove box? I get it back tomorrow.

RPO list should be on the driverside fender on newer 81-87 trucks and in the glove box on the inside of the door pannel 73-80. Those are loose years but thats where the RPO list should be if it has one.

Does the truck have a tachometer installled?

I think you've got it backwords there. I own a 73 and the RPO list is on the Driverside Inner fender in the the engine compartment.

I think this depends on the factory. All of my trucks (see sig) have the RPO list in the glove box except my 84. It's on the drivers side inner fender. It was built at the Oshawa, Ontario Canada plant. My 86 project truck was too but it's in the glove box. The others were built in Janesville, St. Louis, Flint, and Freemont California and all had them in the glove box.

I've got it back, it doesn't say anything. It just has a bunch codes on it. I'll jack her up and rotate the wheels and ballpark it.
