Motor wont turn! crap
 

Parked the truck in the driveway two days ago. went to start it the next day, starter turning real slow and smoking, so i switched starters, didnt fix the problem so then i took the spark plugs out and suddenly it turned over really easily. Then i put the plugs back in and tried starting it. Turned good for a couple of seconds now it wont turn anymore!.I cut my thumb real bad on the flex fan when my wrench slipped so now i am mad and there is blood everywhere. What do i do next?(btw it was running perfectly when i parked the ole 69 2 days ago)

At first it sounds like the timing is way off... You said it was running fine couple days ago huh. With plugs out, motor is free to turn, but with plugs in, if the timing was off, it could be sparking before the cylinder is all the way up. I would start with timing and see where you stand from there. Distributor may have come loose and turned on you.

Yep, it sounds like your timing is way off. Mess with the distributor until you can get the thing to turn over.. :D

1. put on a band-aid.
2. put battery charger on your vehicle's battery. If you have no charger, get another vehicle, and jump of yours with booster cables.
3. get rid of that flex fan, they are a liability. A blade can fly off, through your hood, and if anyone is in its way, it'll cot through them.

I agree with Andy 100%. Ditch that flex fan!!! Get your self a nice 6 or 7 blade clutch fan. It is( next to internal regulator convert.) one of the best swaps I did to my truck. Those flex fan just scare the sh*t out of me.. But that's my IMO.

Check your grounds....both on the battery and make sure you have a clean connection between the starter housing and the engine block

You might be getting just enough of a connection to start cranking, but when you get good compression, the voltage at the starter is too weak to finish the job.

does sound like a voltage problem. Usual suspect is bad connections somewhere down the line, but things like the battery being old, or oil in the starter will slow things down.

:bowtie: SORTA SOUNDS LIKE THE TIMING CHAIN JUMPED. FIND TDC ON #1 CYL, PULL YOUR CAP & SEE WHERE YOUR ROTOR IS POINTING. (SHOULD BE RIGHT AT #1)
SOMTIMES IT'S THE MOST OBVIOS THINGS.

You could also check your timng chain, If it is in bad condition, it may have slipped a tooth. It happened to an 81 truck I had once. It took me forever to find the problem.

Man, no one likes flex fans, eh?

Mine hasn't given me any trouble.. of course, when I have the money, I'm going with an electric setup anyway. :cool:

One more idea,[that you probaby don,t want to hear] You said the the motor turned over for a while after you put the plugs back in. That could be a headgasket leak filling one of the cylinders with water, causing hydralic lock. Just another thing to check.

I did all the voltage block ground jumping (i even melted a set of jumper cables) still no good. Im thinking it could either be the timing chain or hydrolic lock. It is defenitly something mechanical. Now after the thumb severing incident i am going to invest in a nice carbon fiber fan from Lordco and pour some more vodka over the wound:canada:
