Safari Bars for 67-72 or 73-87?
Has anyone found any?
Has anyone made some? If so, can you post a pic? I am looking for a way to mount some KC Slimlites on my 85. Thanks, Brandon |

here is a pic of mine... but if you have a metal grille, i like the look of them mounted behind the grille.. out of the way and still gives off enough light.. i will do that once i get around to mounting my custom grille..

No, those are grill guards, not Safari Bars. :)
Here is a Safari Bar...http://www.westinautomotive.com/page...ht%20bars.html I have a metal grill and I thought about mounting my slimlites behind it, but I was told it was illegal to have lights mounted that way in Missouri...so.... I just bought a Carr Light Wing. That way I can install it on any vehicle I own because it is not specific to 73-87s. http://www.aztrucks.com/Product.asp?Product=247 |
Re: Safari Bars for 67-72 or 73-87?
i have seen a safari bar type thing on a square body burb, i think it used the same holes as the bumper..
as far as being illegal to mount lights behind your grille.. you might want to check you local laws some more.. its probably illegal to use off road lights on road anyways.. so as long as you dont use them on road, it shouldnt be a problem.... reguardless of where they are mounted. besides that, some squarebody trucks (85?) had blinkers behind the grille.. |

I kinda like the Light Wing. Like you said, good idea for multiple vehicles. As far as the light behind the grill goes, I'm in MO and never heard about that. (Of course that doen't mean it not illegal). I've had light behind the grill on three different vehicles now, (you'll notice the turn signals just above the smaller black Baja lights on my 72 in the pic I posted), and have never been even asked about them. And, ohh, how many times have I been pulled over!!! You and I both don't have enough fingers and toes to count 'em! The other 2 vehicles I had were cars with driving lights behind the grille. I had those big SOB's you see on the front of my 72 behind the grill of an 80 Pontiac Lemans. (100 watt halogens...that got their attention!!!Hahaha) I know in IA you can only have 4 seperate bulbs (headlights) illumunated at any given time. So if you have a 4 headlight system and driving lights, you can only run the driving lights when you only have 2 headlights on. Got that little tidbit straight from a state trooper! |
Re: Safari Bars for 67-72 or 73-87?
same here in VA only 4 lights facing forward, any others and they have to be covered. I've looked and looked myself for something like that for my 70s, for the burb though I just bought a bumper off of a M1008, w/ shackle mounting points, plenty of spots to mount extra lights.

It's the same in MO, only 4 lights on at a time...
