Anyone use a 67-72 to haul a car trailer??
I am thinking of buying a car trailer and was wondering if a 67-72 1/2 ton would be a decent pull truck for this purpose. Is a 1/2 ton enough, or should a 3/4 ton be used? I know a diesel is best but I really don't want to buy one at this time. Never towed anything so this is all new to me. Thanks for any input.

I used my 1/2 ton to pull another 1/2 ton couple of months ago... Pulled pretty good. Just make sure your brakes are good or else... Ihave a 350/350 combo in the red 71 and its bored 60 over. 100 mile trip on an 80 degree day at 60-70 mph did fine:metal:

1/2 ton will do if the truck is set up for towing. I'd wire electric brakes up, specialy if pulling in hills. 1/2 ton brakes will heat up fast in hills. I'd prefer 3/4 or 1 ton, which I own the lader,68 1ton dually.

I am planning on taking the 67 down south and pulling a 67-72 1 ton back with it.. I am going to use a dolly though. I dont see a problem with it. A 1 ton pulling would be ideal but that's all I got to pull with so it will have to do.

Dalton, a 1/2 ton should be fine, just make sure you have a good hitch system and trailer brakes are good too! My 70 is a little "touchy" in the brake department, but i have a new disc setup for the front that should help. Eric

Well, it looks like I may be able to use my GMC as a hauler. Thanks for the pics guys.

Re: Anyone use a 67-72 to haul a car trailer??
Dalton, I regularly pull just under 9000 lb (trailer plus load) short distances when I haul my water and it handles it very well. I wouldn't want to do it on hilly terrain though. At around 5-6 thousand pounds it is an easy pull here on the prairies. Good brakes on truck and trailer as well as a good controller and a solid hitch, ball mount and ball all of the correct rating are a must. Proper loading of the trailer and 10-15% of the weight on the hitch is imperative. If not properly loaded you can end up upside down in the ditch really fast. If you have ever hooked onto a tail heavy trailer you know what I mean.
