Yenko Chevrolet trucks

Was watching the American Muscle Car marathon that was on Friday and during the one about the Camaro's I saw these trucks at the Yenko dealer. Grabbed the pic with my camera so the quality isn't as great as if I could have pulled it some other high tech way.

Still a cool pic.

I saved it unreduced at this link

Re: Yenko Chevrolet trucks

Were they "hopped up" Yenko trucks, or were they used as "parts getters?"

Re: Yenko Chevrolet trucks

They look like new trucks in stock by the tags on the windshields.

I love old pics like that

Wonder if he still has those new 68s on his lot? :D

Here's a listing of the muscle cars Yenko sold. http://www.yenko.net/dealers/yenko.htm

I have been told The Yenko Trucks were more conversion to 4x4 and hard core working parts installed.

Now this is wild - I was just looking at some old pics I have saved on my computer and I find the below picture. I took the above pic when I paused an image with my Tivo - the below picture was posted here a few years ago and appears to be with in a frame or two of the picture I took. Wild!

Yenco may have messed with atruck or two... but sure isn't likely.
He hardly did anything but apply stickers... he had the factory build all the awsome cars under the COPO program. The COPO was a back door way to build odd ball cars and trucks that were not normally optioned the way they were needed for fleets such as cop cars, taxi cabs, or fleet trucks. Odd ball paint colors, or a loaded cop car with a vinal rear seat and radio delete. Some of the dealers (like Yenko and Nickey in Chicago) would COPO order stripped down muscle cars with mege motors and HD driveline parts, and then install there stickers ans such. COPO would require the dealer to order so many, and some combos were actually turned down. Most dealers had no idea about this back door oportunity for the ultimate hot rods, and if they woulda know, they most likely wanted nothing to do with it.
There are a hand full of COPO trucks out there, and some on this board, but they were all done up in odd ball fleet order, and not 427 alluminum big block type orders. There is a 427 truck in a musium, and it is claimed to be a COPO... but honestly I highly doubt it since there haven't been any storys come to surface about others like it..and since COPO always said you need to order X amount done up this way...there WOULD be others out there. There is a chance, but untill I see an original SPID label or build sheet, I say it is bogus.
here is another pic...probably from the same day those two black and white pics were taken.

oops... my yenco pic is the same.. I was confusing it with the indy pic...the one with the orange and white trucks. Oh well.
Here is another neat dealer pic too.

Where is Yenko Chevrolet located? I have a 72 3/4 ton truck with a Yenko Chevrolet Dealership sticker on the tailgate. I don't remember if it lists a location. The truck is original with tilt/posi and 402. Nothing else special.

PA
Any chance in getting a good hi-res pic of that by chance? I'd love a couple shots of that sticker...maybe one of the whole gate/tail lights. Pretty please...with a double pumper on top?

Longhorn,

I am working in Colorado right now and won't be home until December 12. If you want to PM me your email address I will be glad to take a pic when I get home. I had the wife run out and look at the sticker and it says Yenko Chevrolet Canansburg, PA.

yes he quit GM a long time ago. His muscle car business was the main thing that kept him going. Mid/late 70's about killed him. I believe it was around that time or early 80's is when his dealership went import. Exact time frame maybe a bit fuzzy, but I remember talking about it with my dad before his death. My dad knew him pretty well. Unfortunately, I only met him once or twice (when getting a motor built) before I was sent overseas in the 70's.

I did a Google on Yenko El Camino and got no results to speak of. I think I have seen pics of Yenko El Camino's but can't be sure. It wouldn't be to far fetched though since they could be had with anything that a Chevelle had.

I did find some cool valve covers while searching-

I think the El Camino I`ve seen, and maybe the one others saw,was a well-built clone. As far as COPO orders go,the factory has done original one-off builds before. All COPO orders are considered on an individual basis. Not saying this is an example of this,but....When I ordered my`92 GMC SLE K3500 SRW,I spec-ed it out and got to the color. They weren`t offering the gold I had seen on Chevys and I had a gold`70 C/30 and`84 K/30.I decided it was time to change my scheme.I saw the Fleet color page. There was Woodland Green. This color has been in the line-up over all the years, but always in the Fleet selsction(Fleet color don`t change). The dealer said those were for fleet accounts only(10 or more per order).I asked, what if I had one of my fleet totaled?I can`t get one to replace it?They called the factory and asked and were told I can get it if I wait for five others in that color to be built. That took six weeks. Now,I`ll garauntee I have the only Woodland Green`92 GMC SLE K3500 SRW 6.5TD/5spd low-back vinyl bucket pickup built.
I have a truck to look at.The guy swears it has an original 427.Not sure what year`til I see it.These are guys that come up with some rare stuff. We`ll see.

No Yenko El Caminos to my knowledge. All the graphics are out there.

Re: Yenko Chevrolet trucks

Also, there was Nickey and Baldwin Chevy that did the 427 Camaros. Saw an article where Baldwin was making a copo version of the last year for the camaro. A guy here in VA had a 69 red Balwin 427 and he had a red last year of the camaro ordered built by Baldwin so he would have a pair. Going back to the trucks. In 72 my dad wanted a 72 stepside. 402, turbo 400, posi 4:11. No powersteering, no rear bumper, Black mat, and black vinyl seat. poverty hub caps. also what ever was standard for a 1/2 ton he wanted the other coil overs or leafs cannot remember. He went to several dealerships in VA and Maryland most said you can get that truck built. One guy told him no one would want a truck like that but you. Anyway some guy at Pallone Chevrolet in Springfield, VA new how to get it done. He waited a while for it to arrive. When it did all black people went crazy. The dealer wanted to keep it for a week or so to put in the showroom. Not sure if they got anymore. Anyway he took it put full chrome standard wheels. Instead of baby moons it had the small 67 camaro rally dishes. Competion shift kit in the turbo 400. It was just one of those well put together trucks. It was Bada$$. I have missed that truck since the day he sold it
