Anyone using a Sanden 508 A/C compressor...
... with the factory A/C system? I need a new compressor and was thinking about using the Alan Grove BBC bracket. Do you just need custom hoses or what?

Re: Anyone using a Sanden 508 A/C compressor...
I have seen the jap compressors used on small block street powered rods before but I would suggest going with a later model GM compressor and BB bracketry for ease of parts. I used all new GM serpentine brackets and accessories for a 1996-2000 L29 454 application on my 454HO. My local Napa store custom made the A/C hoses for $80. The downside is the cost of the accessories if you buy all new stuff as, you would have to change your alternator to a newer style, water pump to a late model reverse rotation pump, fan blade and fan clutch as well as the P/S pulley. May cost a bit but well worth the cost. http://chevytruckworld.tenmagazines....rry/134132.jpg

A friend of mine did it on his V8 S10. He recommended it to me, but I did not know where to have hoses made or what the cost would be. I went out and bought a new stock compressor instead. Next time, if there is one, I'll go with the Sanden.

Re: Anyone using a Sanden 508 A/C compressor...
Thanks, guys. The reason I ask is because I am planning for the hopefully not so distant future. I want accessory brackets that don't use the intake manifold for mounting because I want to put a Weiand 177ci street blower on the 454 someday. They are not compatible with serpentine setups or some of the stock BBC brackets, according to the instruction sheet. The Alan Grove brackets mount to the head and water pump, but they say you must use the Sanden compressor.

Re: Anyone using a Sanden 508 A/C compressor...
My friend who switched to the sanden compressor reports that it makes a noticeable difference in the amount of horsepower lost to turning the compressor. That's just a bonus, I guess...
