Can I salvage this w/s frame?
4 Attachment(s)
I pulled the top off the rust bucket blazer today and found a pleasant surprise. Seems the rust on the w/s frame is limited to what I could see with the top on. I expected to see a lot more rust (just looking at the rest of this thing). So in ya'lls expert opinion can I salvage this one, or keep my eye open for a replacement?

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
I would say it depends on your body work skills. If you are a body rookie, get a better shapped one. If your skills are excellent...then go for it. Me, I'm in the middle and would look for another one.

Yeah, I'm still looking, but I'm gonna hang on to it just in case. I have a lot more time than I have money.

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
I agree w/ Blu4x4, although Kurt (VT) says it's easier than it looks

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
I think you wouold be better off replacing it. It looks pretty crusty along the top, and for $150.00 you could get a nice one and save alot of work. I also look at the fact that you are only fixing what is showing now, what about the crap that shows up after it is painted and looking nice. Just my opinion!!

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
Hard to know the full extent until you put the blaster to it.
Maybe at this time just try to stop it from going any further? Meaning clean it up, do some patch repairs, get it sealed up and run it like it is for awhile. What's your intent with the blazer? Driver or garage queen? $150 for a blazer windshield frame? Post a couple pics, I'll take two! |

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
My intents with this blazer is to throw a pickup cab on the chassis and play. I do have another blazer that is gonna be restored, one day when I have the time and money to do it.

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
It looks a little worse than mine did, but, if you got the time, you can fix anything. If you can stand to tear the frame apart its easier to make patches that way, but getting it all lined back up again is the problem. I'm having that fight right now. Good luck, Jeff.

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
I would look for a solid truck frame at the junk yard to make patchs out of should be a pretty easy fix..

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
That shouldn't be a problem, I just visited a yard with lots of old trucks.:D

Re: Can I salvage this w/s frame?
All I can say is if you fix it buy a quart of POR-15 and fill it full. It will stop the rust for good. It cost a little bit but its worth it. you can get it from eastwood. I use it on everything that comes through our shop.

If that the case and you just wanna have fun with it, then simply stop the rust now with some por or similar and drive it. :) Hey LUV, you know I'm just bustin' on you. |
