Paint for Guages
 

What paint could I fix a scratch on the black part of the guage face? I was thinking like model paint or nail polish but want it to look as close as possible any tips or kinds?

Good question.
I would think a flat black for the gauge face and hot flourescent red for the needle. Spray painting the face might get chancy and blow away your graffics. Hand brushing could suck too, unless you're real good. Look at the face very close up and determine if it's more flat-, or more semi-gloss. It won't be too glossy. Find a paint that matches best and touch up sparingly.
I was lucky. On my '68's gauges, the black part was still well- blacked, only the needles needed touch up. That I did with light spray paint, after masking off with a slitted sheet of white paper and overlapping the slit ends with scotch tape. The clockwork part I masked off in a plastic sandwich bag to prevent overspray from getting sucked into the works in back.

Black model paint can work as I that is what I use to touch up the rivets on the fuel gauges. it is not a perfect match, but works. I have a bunch of gauges and would trade you the one you need for the one you scratchd as I could use it for white dash that I'm restoring. Which gauge did you need? Randy

I have a 80Lb Oil Guage that has a scratch, and then a Speedo that I am not using and a fuel guage but I mean the 80-Lb guages are hard to find

I have several in good shape if you want to trade, or you can go to the nearest hobby shop and get some black paint(I use testors model paint enamal) and a very thin hard tipped brush(they are about $5 for a good one) and do it that way.Being it is this small gauge it will not be that noticable even if the color isn't perfect.
