I need a lower ratio rear end instead of the stump puller on my 67 C-20; also
Are there any sources for complete steel beds for 67-72 C-20 long boxes?

On the rear end, it drives on the highway, like it's in 2nd gear, while in 3rd. Anything over 40 mph sounds like it's overreving!

I have searched through many parts suppliers on line for sheetmetal parts but only can find small repair panels for the bed floor. Mine has rust at the ends where it is rolled.

Project location is Spokane, Washington.

Lower ratio gears are stump-pullers in my book.The higher the number,the lower the gear because the number is compared to one.1:1 is final drive/high gear,right?

Special K - You have the right thought process, we can all get it confused by perspective. The process goes bonkers when I tell you I have a really low rear end, and it gets misinterpreted as low meaning deep, power or acceleration versus speed, versus low meaning highway gears.

For my .02, I have a 3.55 in the Longhorn, don't recall anything lower numerically, or more in a highway mode for the 3/4 ton. Most common is 3:73 or 4:10, probably some 4:56 in trucks with a 6 cylinder.

To Locked you need to find out what you have in order to know where to go. The other suggestion is to review and revise your profile with a general location, or specific, so locals can contact you. Don't know of any reproduction bed materials for LWB, or Longhorns, I have one more 8' CO bed that has a few issues on the floor. I plan to dismember the sides as they are nice, as well as the front end panel, and get them in the rafters for some other day. Would sell it whole, but it is not a rust free cherry piece. I have one of those on a 72 Cheyenne from CA.

The other deal on rears is to consider a taller tire which will drop your effective ratio and make the highway a bit more tolerable. If you add tire diameter, it will effectively change that ratio. You need to use a diameter of the OEM tire, and you can ratio it to the taller tire, i.e. 29"/32" = .90625, use that as the multiplier on a 4.10 and you get a 3.71.

Problem is most 3/4 tons will run a fairly tall unit as stock, so your replacement tire may not have that total impact as the example.

3.4 ton also had 3.42 rear gears which is a great overall highway setup.

You can get a Dana 61 with 3:08s in it, and just weld on new spring/coil mounts.

i have a decent usable long bed for sale, it has minimal rust only in the bed floor, the side panels are solid they have a few dents but are not rusted away, I was asking 200 for it and the tailgate , but would listen to an offer Bob bobcat7@comcast.net

lil red, actually the 4.10 and 4.56 are most common, with a 3.54 or so with big blocks... nothing else was offered. Not stock anyways. (onless we wanna start talkin the 5.13-ish gears too)
