using a camper question
is a 1/2 ton 4x4 running a smallblock a strong enough truck to use with a fullsize camper?

Re: using a camper question
Depends on how fast you want to go. If the suspension is up to it, it will probably be fine.

Re: using a camper question
springs, shocks and engine are new. was curious if i need air shocks or helper springs in the rear. i guess i always think big block 3/4 ton for towing, hauling and campering (new word).

Re: using a camper question
Air bags are the way to go. I had them on my 3/4 ton GMC for my camper that weighs 1800 lbs. Makes it a lot more stable. I didnt even mount a air compressor, I just filled up at the gas station.

Re: using a camper question
You should be ok, but consider where & which way your going. If you head east over one of the mountain passes count on using the slow lane alot. Other factors include your gearing and tire size as well as wind drag. A few tricks to consider is to only take as much water on as you need to get by, then fill up the holding tank closest to you destination, 1 gal = about 8 lbs.

Re: using a camper question
It helps having stock size tires too. Its like changing gears.
