Welding gas for MIG?

I'm getting ready to put my cab back together, and was wondering what welding gas I need for my MIG. I've heard Argon, but I've also heard Argon/Co2. Which is it? Thanks!

agree with phantom dually, I use 100% argon on my TIG for both steel and aluminum but I use the mix for my MIG. CO2 is less expensive than argon and has superior heat conductivity. unless you are welding 4130 --- 100%
C02 can be used however I have not tried it.

Is Stargon, the commercial name for the Argon/Co2 mix? Just curious....it's what I have in my tank with my MIG welder....which I have yet to learn to use. Shame, shame, shame.

Stargon sounds like the name for a gas company. C25 is what the mix is generally known as

C10 or C25 are used in our industry. C10 being the cheaper and used with solid wire on 65-80k psi steel. Metal building manufacturing.

it can also be called Blueshield. the gas company here Norco calls it #7 75argon/25co2 and #9 is 90argon/10co2

75/25 is a good mix for most of your automotive welding. A straight CO2 will work, but you have lots of spatter(not the best for tin work). The local shop sell Stargon (argon/CO2, with a little NOS), IIRC. it works good for anything I run......tin to frame stuff.:) L

Thanks for the help guys! The local dealer said he has what I need, so all I need to do is sign the gas contract and get to work on putting my cab back together.
