82 C-10 shorty swap
Okay...this might have been covered 100 times in this forum...but I'm a 67-72 guy......can the 4.3 six cylinder be swapped into an 82 shorty/stepside that currently has a 250 six in it now?? Relatively easy? I know the dimension of the 4.3 and the smallblock are virtually the same as far as mounts go....but will the 250 six auto transmission bellhousing bolt up to the 4.3? The owner is also looking at swapping to fuel injection.......if anyone here has done this swap...could you please contact me @ padams8888@comcast.net
Thanks.......:metal: |
Re: 82 C-10 shorty swap
Yes, the inline 6 and the 4.3 V6 both use the same bellhousing pattern.
These trucks came with the V6 in the mid-to-later 80's (I don't know what year exactly, but remember working on them), so the factory did the work for you. You should be able to find any needed parts without fabricating anything. |

Thank-you for the reply......that helps out a bunch.

Re: 82 C-10 shorty swap
My 86 GMC swb has a factory 4.3 in it. I wouldn't spend the money to swap one in a truck, they are gutless and don't get much better mileage than a smallblock. I would install a 292 straight six before I installed a 4.3.

ill second that. i just put in a 350 to replace the 4.3 in my 83. i only got around 15 mpg on the highway with the 4.3. and passing on a 2 lane road could be an adventure ! |
