Rebuild 7/8" M20 or...?

My 64 M20 is going out again, and I know its the case causing the problem. New supercase =$270 + 140 for rebuild kit and then I have to pay someone to put it all together [$100-200] Im looking at between $500-600. Lucky for me I have a set of modify'd vortec heads Im going to sell to fund this project[PM for info]. So, are there any 5speeds that are an option? T56 [6sp]is way too much, Im thinking in the $1000 range and want to keep my stock shift linkage. Or a cheap rebuildable 1" M20 would be cool too if I could find one. I really enjoy this tranny.

tom, all the GM 5 speeds I'm aware of are rail shifted so they dont even use your style shifter. the 5 speeds that DO use a mechanical shifter are high priced DNE(doug nash), and Richmond units. the 7/8" munchies were not the greatest for performance use but I dont think you are drag racing your rig anyway so why not consider a 80's model Camaro 5 speed that are starting to get plentiful. you might be surprised what you can get for even an old ailing munchie like yours. Tom I can build it. I have done many many 3, 4, and 5 speeds. I just dont do automatics, I have a family member for that plus may be could use the heads
