Startin up

In cold weather my truck likes to act like a new date that I don't understand. Usually I crank on it for about 5 sec two times then pull the choke and she will bust off, well thats most of the time. Recently I can crank on it with no start, but some times when I turn back the key to run and the engine is still rollin fast it will start. It's like the starter is pulling all of the juice and not leaving enough for the HEI to hit a good spark. Any help on this is appreciated. This has happened before over the years. Thanks Steve :but:

I might need to add that after the babe has started and warmed up it will bust off everytime, in a normal sort of way.

What do you do with the gas pedal? My choke isn't hooked up and I pat the gas a couple of times, then hold the pedal to the floor and mine cranks right up. BTW folks when he says cold weather, he means cold for MS (around freezing).:D
