One day Ill be through***update 1-14-07***
5 Attachment(s)
Well I have been working on my Jimmy since the first of October 05 (I have owned it since Feb 05 but was deployed for six months). It started out with changing the xmsn/tcase adapter and rewire it. I fixed the tcase adapter but have yet to rewire it. Here are a few pics,
how it looked a week after I got it home...after I decided to tear it apart one day, with engine, tcase and xmsn reinstalled. This is the biggest project that I have undertaken totally by myself, well with the help of my 7 yo daughter. Its amazing how much they help. I had to throw in the pic my daughter took of me with my oil pump, she thinks it funny that I get so wound up working on it. My daughter tells my wife all the time "We are going to finish the Jimmy before that date you set". |
Re: One day Ill be through.
Every time I see a blazer or jimmy, I want one. And I've barely started on my truck. Hmmm...Maybe I should switch directions before getting into the truck too far. Or maybe I should just find another project.
Lookin good, Al |
Re: One day Ill be through.
The body on your Jimmy looks rust free and straight, did you find your Jimmy here in NC? I live in Durham, and I have'nt run across any Blazers or Jimmys that nice. I went out to Colorado to get my Blazer. Looks like your getting a lot done in a short time. It look great! I would love to see it when you get it back on the road.

Re: One day Ill be through.
Man your really moving along on that thing. Looks great. Can't beat working with the kids, special feeling when they are jazzed about your hobbies. Did you get rid of the big tires/wheels? I really liked those.

Re: One day Ill be through.
The 35's in the picture were over 50% tread left, but were dry rotted pretty badly from it sitting for so long. I sold them, kept the rims though. I am going with 37x1250 ssr's when I get done (tires are in shed waiting to go on).

Well as of 3/19 I have done the 14b disc swap, put the D60 under the front, motor in. Unfortunately I have to remove the motor because of the oil pump, remove and reinstall the 60 because of ubolts and shims, install the 14b. I blame all of this on spending too much time with my family :bs: , girl scouts, soccer games etc....
Come on now, I know trucks are important but family is way above the Jimbo. |

Good to see the progress. Cool helper you have there!
Was the disk brake swap fairly simple? What kit did you use? |

Got the axles under the truck Fri night. I love working by myself, gives me more appreciation for what I am doing. I put the 14 bolt d60 under it, stuck the tires on to see how its going to look. I still have to do the shackle flip in the rear.

Well finally started making some progress again, I managed to get the core support, radiator, engine accessories installed. Just need to get it outside and try and fire it up. I installed a shackle flip also, now I have to move the axle back, it never ends. And a pic of my newest tool box addition, like brand new less than 300$. I bet the PO hadnt used it 5 times.

Re: One day Ill be through.
Nice work!! My helpers started when they were 5 or 6 yrs. old. Well he graduated Sat. and he had a month off, so he came home to help me finish the Jimmy. In the workshop last night he said 'Dad just like old times'. Enjoy your daughter now, they don't stay small forever. BTW he does really nice welding, he's doing the metal work and I'm doing mechanical work.
Your truck is looking awesome, I didn't realize you had a Jimmy. |
Re: One day Ill be through.
My daughter is so busy now, school, softball, thankfully Girl Scouts are over for the year though. I enjoy her help, and dont realize how much help she is until she is not there to help.
Jimmy or bust!!! I got the approval that once I get this one finished, I can sell my Tacoma and buy another first gen for a DD!!!! |
